The FSJ Culture at Design PF

Are you interested in art and design? Or perhaps you would like to study at a design university yourself later on?

The School of Design at Pforzheim University has been in existence for 100 years and trains prospective designers in 10 Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. Our university stands for practice-oriented training in small groups and forward-looking thinking and design. It offers the widest range of design courses in Germany. Our graduates are regularly awarded important prizes such as the Lucky Strike Junior Designer Award, the Red Dot or the European Fash.

As an FSJ student, we offer you the opportunity to get to know one of the most important German design universities at first hand and to support it in the areas of public relations, event management and student recruitment. This includes maintaining our website as well as preparing our major semester exhibition "Werkschau", office organization and designing new projects and formats for different target groups.

We wish...

.... An FsJ student aged 18 and over who is interested in art and design, can already work with MS Office (Mac), likes to organize, has experience with social media and is an open-minded team player. We are looking forward to independent and reliable work as well as curiosity to realize own projects.

And this is what our FSJ volunteers say:

Daniel, a former FSJ student

Daniel:

"The School of Design is a very colorful place, you are constantly surrounded by creative minds, the building itself is so impressive that you can only feel at home there. I got to know the university, got a deep look behind the scenes and learned to take on responsibility. You are part of one of the centerpieces of Pforzheim's culture. You get to know the city better in terms of culture, and if you are perhaps from Pforzheim, you get a different view of the golden city. A.K.T;, Café Roland, LAF, without Design PF such places would not exist. It was just a lot of fun!"

Angelina, a former FSJ volunteer, wears VR glasses

Angelina:

"The FSJ gave me the chance to take on responsibility independently in my day-to-day work for the first time. I was able to expand my personal expertise in the areas of copywriting, organization and planning, which is now very useful to me in my job. The FSJ gave me guidance for my future path in life and helped me to develop new ways of thinking.

Anna, a former FSJ volunteer

Anna:

"In public relations, new topics are always coming in and it's like a constant flow of new insights. Events such as the portfolio consultation and the exhibition and, above all, their planning show me how such events are created and who all works on them. It's great to be part of a team and to see how everyone works together and supports each other. I'm also learning a lot working from home: working more independently and organizing my own work."

Our FSJ students

  • build bridges: As a member of the public relations team, they are the link between school and university, know the needs of applications and communicate with them as equals

  • learn communication: email, telephone, Instagram - our FSJ students learn about internal and external communication and what it means to be the interface of a large institution

  • make contacts: Our FSJ volunteers get to know many students through their work and build new relationships - because they and the students have similar interests and are of a similar age, a first step into a new phase of life

  • fail and succeed: With us, FSJ volunteers are given responsible tasks that they take on from start to finish. If something goes wrong, that's part of it - the FSJ Culture is a place to try things out

  • grow: We offer FSJ volunteers the space to try things out and go their own way. We accept initiatives and suggestions - without internal hierarchies.

  • are cultural custodians and design ambassadors: their work shows how important design is. Creativity is the engine of the future and we live that.

  • are team members: Our FSJ volunteers are part of the Design PF family and can use our network to further their own careers.
