Cineastic Salon: „Angst essen Seele auf“

Veranstaltung 19.10.2022 18:00 Uhr - Kommunales Kino Pforzheim

Cooperation between Kommunales Kino and Pforzheim University

The next Cineastic Salon in cooperation between Kommunales Kino and the Faculty of Design at Pforzheim University will be dedicated to the German exceptional director Rainer Werner Fassbinder on Wednesday, October 19, at 6 pm. With "Angst essen Seele auf," Fassbinder not only created an award-winning social drama, but also a catchphrase to express the destructive power of fear. The influence of the film beyond the boundaries of cinema will be the topic of the film discussion, for which Professor Dr. Evelyn Echle will welcome theater director Sascha Mey and actress Anne-Kathrin Lipps, in addition to Prof. Dr. Thomas Hensel, following the screening. Lipps held several roles in the 2017 stage adaptation of the film directed by Annett Kruschke at the Pforzheim Theater. The film begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Kommunales Kino Pforzheim; students receive free admission with the Kulturflat.

Fassbinder's 1974 film is about Emmi (played by Brigitte Mira), a widow whose monotonous daily routine as a cleaning woman ends abruptly when she falls in love with Ali (El Hedi Ben Salem), a Moroccan guest worker 20 years her junior. Their marriage becomes a scandal and the couple feels the rejection of their fellow men in all its severity: Emmi's grown-up children are ashamed of their mother, the neighbors whisper and her work colleagues despise her. But the young marriage is not only threatened from the outside.
