Three graduates honored for graduation film

Lilian Brade, Niclas Hasemann, and Phuong An Phi received the KALTBLUT. Magazine Fashion Award 2025 for their short film "The Feminine Urge." The award was presented at the Fashionclash Festival in Maastricht, where the film was screened alongside the other nominated works.
"The Feminine Urge" interprets the concept of female rage and transfers it to the horror genre. The focus is on six impressive costumes by Lilian Brade. They symbolize the cycle of birth, creation, sexuality, motherhood, death, and rebirth and were created as a critique of the stereotypical portrayal of women in horror films. Through her costumes, Brade sheds new, terrifying light on psychoanalytic concepts such as the archaic mother and vagina dentata.
As a joint project by three graduates, the short film exemplifies what interdisciplinary design work can look like: it combines Brade's costumes – the fashion graduate's final collection – with the cinematic realization of Phuong An Phi, a master's graduate in creative direction, and Niclas Hasemann, who completed his fashion studies in 2024.
In addition to winning the KALTBLUT. Fashion Award, "The Feminine Urge" qualified for a screening at the ASVOFF Festival. The project was also shown during Berlin Fashion Week: in addition to an installation-style film projection, Brade's fashion collection was also on display.
