Job description Industrial Designer
Industrial designers are product designers, they design the whole spectrum of goods in the field of consumer goods (goods for private use, e.g. furniture or electrical appliances) and capital goods (products for companies, e.g. production machines).
The working method of an Industrial Designer is very interdisciplinary, his/her task is not only to think up concepts and design individual products, but also to integrate them holistically into the framework of a corporate philosophy and to organize design processes efficiently.
The field of industrial design today includes corporate values, corporate brand attributes, function, innovation, technology and sustainability. The focus of our program is a synthesis of technical, artistic and human science aspects, taking into account economic and environmental factors.
Ever-increasing demands for new products, the growing complexity and interconnectedness of technologies, internationalization, and high competitive pressure to develop ever more differentiated and expressive design solutions - all these factors reinforce the demand for capable product designers.
Karrierewege
Unsere Absolventen und Absolventinnen haben verschiedenste Möglichkeiten, in das Berufsleben einzusteigen: in hoch spezialisierten Designbüros, oder aber in Design- oder Entwicklungsabteilungen von Industrieunternehmen (im Bereich Design, Forschung und Entwicklung, oder im Bereich Marketing) – entweder als Angestellte in Festanstellung oder als Freie Mitarbeiter*innen. Da Industrial Design unter die ‚freien’ Berufe fällt, ist es auch relativ einfach, selbstständig zu arbeiten.
Mögliche Berufsfelder sind u.a.: Junior/Senior Designer*in, Art/Creative Director, Produktmanager*in, Strategic Designer*in, Design Manager*in, CAD-Konstrukteur*in oder -Modelleur*in.
Branchen: in der Konsum- und Investitionsgüterindustrie, Automobil- und Automobilzulieferindustrie, in der Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie, bei Werbe- und Event Management Agenturen, bei Architekturbüros und Bauträgern, Trendbüros und in der Wissenschaft/Design-Forschung.
