What is meant by 'general artistic work' and 'work related to the degree program'?

General artistic works are mostly drawings or paintings; they may depict still lifes, portraits, nudes, nature, architecture and much more.
Works related to the degree program have as their theme/motif a typical task of the respective department.
Here are a few examples: an event poster for Visual Communication, an illustration of an item of clothing for Fashion, a design drawing of an earring for Jewellery, a sketch of a handbag for Accessory Design, ideas for a chair for Industrial Design, a vehicle for Transportation Design.

The portfolio for your Bachelor application:

You need 10 to 15 general artistic works (drawings/paintings, i.e. originals made by hand); and additionally 5 works related to the course of study. You should photograph these works (ideally in landscape format). Please make sure that your artistic works are shown in the intended orientation (no rotated / upside-down images).

The edges of the page should be visible in the photos of the artwork, and ideally a size reference object (e.g. sharpener or pencil). In addition, please provide the following information below:

1) Title of the work,
2) Size of the original (in cm),
3.) Drawing material used (e.g. pencil, charcoal, etc.),
4.) drawing surface (e.g. paper, canvas, cardboard...)

Make a pdf file from the photographed work.

To this pdf file you add

  • a curriculum vitae
  • a letter of motivation

Combine all files into a single .pdf (please do NOT use the Acrobat option 'Create pdf portfolio') - The file size of your pdf for uploading must not exceed 40 MB.
Give the finished pdf the following name before uploading it to our portfolio portal: LastNameFirstName.pdf (with your name, e.g. MusterMax.pdf).

Please note: Applicants who have already passed the portfolio selection in the previous semester do not have to submit any more artistic works. In this case, please upload only your CV and letter of motivation as ONE pdf to the portfolio portal.

The portfolio for your Master's application:

For our Master's degree programs, there are no restrictions and/or specifications as to what should be included in the digital portfolio. Details on the application documents can be found on the program pages under (e.g.) 'MACD' > 'Application'.
